The Glass is Full Enough

The Glass is Full Enough

I love the expression “the glass is half full”. It’s about deciding to see the good and make the most of your situation, in all areas of life, including wealth, health, relationships, and happiness.

I want to go a step further and consider the idea that “the glass is full enough”. As in, even when your glass isn’t so full – one-forth or one-tenth for example – that’s still enough to choose to see the good and make the most of your situation.

Recognizing “the glass is full enough” empowers you to accept reality, and work with what you have, to be successful, abundant, and fulfilled.

As President Theodore Roosevelt famously said:

“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”

I love it. I think this quote essentially means the same thing as “the glass is full enough”, except it implies action too. As in, take your glass, however full or not full it is, and do what you can with it. Besides, things are never going to be perfect, so you might as well work what you’ve got.

Wherever you currently are in life, there are things within you that are extremely valuable, so recognize that as such, put what you have to good use, and be grateful. Deciding “the glass is full enough” puts you in charge, with the tools you already possess.

This idea that “the glass is full enough” helps me see life clearly and feel empowered, in both times when my glass is overflowing with abundance, and in times when my glass feels empty and needs a little refill at the tap. There’s always something to work with.

Yes, the empty part of the glass is worth recognizing and improving. But I don’t spend too much time dwelling on what’s missing, and I don’t recommend anyone else overdo it either. Give the empty part of the glass it’s due attention, care, and love. Then, as much as possible, shift your focus to the full part of the glass.

What we focus on seems to flourish, whether it’s wealth, health, relationships, happiness, or anything else. So with that in mind, it makes sense to say “the glass is full enough”, focus on your abundance, relax, and allow it to multiply. It’s satisfying, reality-based, and empowering.
