What You Focus on Flourishes

What You Focus on Flourishes

One of the biggest lessons that life constantly reaffirms for me is “what you focus on flourishes”. So, most of the time, I try to keep my eyes, and my mind, on the prize – on the good things in life. It’s true what success-philosopher Earl Nightingale famously said, “we become what we think about, most of the time.”

This concept that “what you focus on flourishes” has been so very powerful in my life. It has led me to so many good things, and the expansion and abundance of those things I’ve focused on. Maybe you’ve experienced this too. In any case, I want to share the wealth by writing this blog article, and I want to personally recommit to focusing on good things in my own life – especially given the chaos of current events in our homes, communities, countries, and world.

Of course, I think it’s important to face reality and seek the truth. At the same time, no matter what kind of truth we discover, I think we owe it to ourselves to make the best of our situations.

Here’s an evolving list of things I find worthy of focus and flourishing: love, joy, hope, peace, abundance, magic, satisfaction, energy, order, health, wealth, knowledge, reflection, vision, effectiveness, decisiveness, confidence, courage, manifestation, longevity, wisdom, well-used time, intelligence, education, growth, nurturing, excellence, excitement, focus, flourish, expansion, the big picture, the details, contentment, fulfilled, wellbeing, happiness, balance, acceptance, truth, integrity, trust, discernment, kindness, beauty, romance, friendship, family, professionalism, tact, listening, caring, community, communication, cooperation, conversation, collaboration, partnership, learning, study, philosophy, independent thought, science, evolution, diversity, curiosity, imagination, inspiration, genius, adventure, fun, humor, playfulness, fabulous, glamorous, wonderful, goodness, greatness, good enough, pleasure, bliss, ecstasy, freedom, sunshine, alive, bloom, celebration, generosity, giving, receiving, opportunity, possibility, gratitude, thank you, forgiveness, faith, the source of creation, existence, reality, the supernatural, nature, oneness, completeness, the universe, individualism, paradox, peak experiences, self-actualization, starting up, momentum, finished products, success, winning, passion, enthusiasm, ambition, strategy, compound effects, power, empower, cheer on, champion, hard work, discipline, action, progress, routine, habit, achievement, resilience, fortitude, ingenuity, the journey, personal responsibility, rest, sleep, ease, habits, principles, the past, the present moment, the future, and all the best.

That’s my list so far. It ended up much longer than I’d intended, but I didn’t want to leave out anything that crossed my mind, and it’s nice to have this running list of good things that make life wonderful. Your list of good things might be similar to mine or totally different, but there’s no doubt yours is equally beautiful and full of powerful possibilities.

Over the next three weeks, I’m taking part in Mike Dooley’s “21-Day Visualization Project”, which is exciting. He’s the author of the wonderful “Notes from the Universe” books. He’s full of positive energy, and he does an outstanding job making good things flourish through focus, visualization, and action.

I’m quite inspired by these concepts and the idea that “what you focus on flourishes”. With those things in mind, about a year ago, I spent an hour and 15 minutes in an MRI tube for lower back imaging, visualizing and planning my financial future far into the decades ahead. It was a really powerful exercise that turned a potentially claustrophobic experience into one of the best planning sessions of my life. That’s just one example that shows the benefits of this way of thinking.

I’m excited to continue to make the most of my life by focusing on the things I want to flourish. I encourage you to continue to make the most of your life too. We are living in a big, beautiful, mysterious world, full of so much wonder and possibility. I think we are all capable of big, exciting things, and we are more powerful than we can even imagine. With that in mind, I hope the concept of “what you focus on flourishes” brings endless beautiful things into your life.

UPDATE 6.2.2020: I’ve had a night to sleep on this, since publishing this article, and I want to add that I think it’s important that we allow ourselves and others to experience our negative emotions too. As we all know, there are parts of life that are difficult, painful, and uncomfortable, and of course it’s okay to experience that stuff too – it’s kind of yin and yang.

With that being said, I also had a flood of additional ideas for positive focus, that I want to record and share. So here they are: positivity, turn up the yes, creativity, enjoyment, skill, easy, challenge, saunter, determined, travel, relax, nimble, agility, proud, enough, domestic, cosmopolitan, speed, patience, respect, optimism, precision, coordination, flow, thrive, process, persistence, appreciation, world-class, trustworthiness, self-confidence, cheerleader, developer, friendly, passion, strength, consistency, the best of times, lazy, slug mode, time well-used, encouragement, persuasive, understanding, soft, tough, dream, self-expression, positive risk, speak up, and awesome.

All the best to you! Have a beautiful June!
